Epimedium × versicolor 'Sulphureum'

Add a little brightness to your dreary early spring day! Epimedium × versicolor ‘Sulphureum’ has pale yellow short-spurred flowers emerging in early spring that hang delicately above heart-shaped foliage. Leaves emerge a soft red, mature to a verdant green, and change color again in the fall. Excellent groundcover in dry shade, this plant spreads quickly to keep weeds at bay while filling the niche of what to plant near a garden path perfectly.

Epimedium × versicolor, sometimes commonly called bicolor barrenwort, is a cross between E. grandiflorum and E. pinnatum subsp. colchicum. It is a rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial which typically grows 8-12" tall and is primarily used as a ground cover or edger in shady or woodland areas. - Missouri Botanic Garden

Epimedium × versicolor 'Sulphureum' Growing and Maintenance Tips

Cut back old foliage in late winter for best spring display.

This variety spread more readily than most other Epimediums. Prefers rich and moist soils but can take root competition and dryness from deciduous trees. Tolerant of dry shade once established.

Works well as a groundcover and filler - especially effective as an edger along paths. Plant in large masses in woodland gardens and shade gardens, underneath shrubs, or scattered amongst other shade favorites.
