Gold Fountains sedge Interesting Notes

In Japanese, Kaga is the old name for the Ishikawa Prefecture and nishiki means "brocade," an apt description for the lacy beauty of this finely gold variegated sedge. - Rick Darke, Ornamental Grasses

This sedge is a delightful, easy-to-grow addition to any plant collection, via a Barry Yinger expedition to Japan. This evergreen carex has narrow, dark green leaves with a nice golden border. It forms a delightful small clump, 10" tall x 20" wide, perfect for the rock garden or woodland border.

Carex dolichostachya Gold Fountains™ 'Kaga-nishiki' Growing and Maintenance Tips

C. dolichostachya prefers average to dry, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun to full shade. Needs adequate moisture in full sun. Drought tolerant once established. Propagate by division of clumps every few years. Cut foliage to the ground in early spring before new growth occurs to tidy its appearance. Use in containers, borders or texture in the shady woodland garden.
