Position Summary

The Stock Grower is responsible for the execution of care and proper maintenance of all planting stock. They will perform various operational and supervisory functions to ensure the effective operation of the facility by ensuring that prescribed schedules, operating policies and procedures are followed. Fax your resume to (610) 255-4762 or email tim@northcreeknurseries.com

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Maintain stock plant health and quality through proper irrigation, fertilization and pest control techniques
Make pesticide applications as required and follow standard work procedures to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws
Perform regular testing to assure proper soil chemistry and plant nutrition
Perform regular virus testing of stock plants as needed
Organize stock potting and crop set down location with Production Administrator
Conduct all tasks related to stock plant health and quality (e.g., trimming, watering, fertility, potting, manipulation of stock to ensure quality cuttings and discarding of old material)
Make recommendations regarding improved operating policies and procedures
Maintain accurate stock inventory and complete proper paperwork
Maintain a clean and organized growing area
Perform additional duties as required

Experience

Some actual growing experience desired but not required
We are willing to train the right person with the right attitude

Knowledge / Skills Required

Must have knowledge of basic growing techniques
Must be able to do simple math calculations and conversions
Understand different cultural requirements of plants based on where they grow in the landscape/field in order to properly care for and maintain the quality of product awaiting production
Must have solid knowledge of pesticide safety and application techniques

Desired Skills

Complete watering, fertilizer and pesticide applications as needed
Is reliable and consistent in attendance and punctuality
Invest the time and effort to do a good job

Is able to obtain a PA Pesticide applicators license
Is a team player
Work in a safe manner, reporting any unsafe conditions or safety incidents
Follow and sustain LEAN flow or Working Smarter program in day-to-day tasks
Follow Systems Approach to Nursery Certification (SANC) practices in day-to-day tasks and strive for continual improvement of our facility practices and internal procedures
Maintain a clean working area ("start clean, work clean, finish clean")
Must have effective listening and communication skills
Is able to work in all weather conditions at tasks that are sometimes physically demanding

Education

College education desired but not required

Compensation: Based on experience.
