Additional Information about Salvia nemorosa Marcus® 'Haeumanarc'
A compact, hardy perennial sage that brings concentrated waves of vivid violet-blue blooms to sunny garden beds from late spring through much of summer and into early fall. Bred as a smaller counterpart to the taller ‘May Night’, this cultivar stays especially low and well-mannered. It typically reaches about 8-12 inches tall with a broad, tidy spread. Making it ideal for edging, rock gardens, containers, and more. Its rich flower spikes rise above neat mounds of grey-green, lance-like foliage that emit a gentle herbal scent when brushed, creating textural interest even when not in bloom. Regular removal of spent flowers can extend its season of interest and encourage additional flushes of color. 'Haeumanarc' is reliably easy to grow in full sun with well-drained soil and shows good drought tolerance once established.
Beyond that, this meadow sage is a magnet for pollinators! It attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, while showing resistance to common garden critters like deer and rabbits. In winter, although the foliage dies back, the tidy clumps often persist as low, structural forms that can add subtle shape to dormant garden beds (leaving foliage through mild winters can also offer slight protection to crowns and contribute to winter garden texture). Marcus® performs well across a broad range of USDA hardiness zones and is as suited to mass plantings for bold color impact as it is to mixed perennial borders or container groupings.
Growing & Maintenance Tips for Salvia nemorosa Marcus® 'Haeumanarc'
Prefers average, clay or sandy, well-drained soils in full sun. Drought, heat and humidity tolerant. Shear after blooming for fresh foliage and flowers. Terrific for containers.
