PLNA's North Creek Stops Sale of Carex Species Due to Invasive Tendencies
North Creek Nurseries announced that it is halting sales of the European native species Carex flacca and its cultivars such as ‘Blue Zinger’ due to evidence that it invasive in the United States. North Creek reported in a release on February 3 that Carex flacca has been found outside cultivation in natural environs in the woods of Connecticut, Vermont, Kentucky, Michigan, and New York, and the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.
North Creek said it has “noticed that horticulturists have been promoting Carex flacca in the garden. We wish to spread awareness to our customers and friends about the invasiveness of this plant and plead the case that they stop using it as well.”
