Fountain grass Interesting Notes

Introduced by Intrinsic Perennial Gardens.

This Pennisetum is a selection brilliantly made by Brent Horvath from 'National Arboretum'. It has the traditional bottlebrush plumes in mid to late summer that hold beautifully for months and months. Very elegant after a light rain, mist or even light frost. The deep purple buds mature to a dusty purple color that look like the bushy tail of a squirrel at 3" wide by 10" long. The foliage remains true green until the temperatures get colder when it merely reveals some dotted golden hues in the tips and midrib.

'Red Head' is an excellent selection as a featured specimen or focal point in a perennial border garden or as its entire backdrop. Well done Intrinsic - another fine find.
