A Siskiyou Nursery introduction. Wine-red buds opening to rose pink flowers with white stamens. Shorter than other varieties with darker foliage. Occasional white flowers will appear, but they are few. The stems culminate in racemes of orchid-like flowers that open a few at a time giving the plant the added bonus of a long blooming period.

Gaura 'Siskiyou Pink' was found as a pink flowering sport of a white flowering seedling of Gaura lindheimeri. Mr. Mineo and the cultivar 'Siskyou Pink' can claim responsibility for the introduction for the genus Gaura to mainstream perennial growers around the world. - Pride of Place Plants

Gaura is from the Greek gauros, meaning superb.

Gaura lindheimeri is named for German immigrant and "Father of Texas Botany" Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, who explored Texas for plants, helping found New Braunfels where he settled and became editor of the local newspaper in 1852.

Gaura lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink' Growing and Maintenance Tips

'Siskiyou Pink' prefers well-drained, sandy, loamy soil. Flowering stems may become leggy and flop, particularly when grown in rich soils or too much shade. Plants can benefit from close planting or support from adjacent perennial.

Can tolerate heat, humidity and drought. Best used for xeriscaping, perennial gardens or naturalized areas. Can be propagated by seed or division after 2-3 years.

Deadhead during the flowering season to prolong bloom length and cut back in early spring for flush new growth and to control size. May self seed in autumn if spent flowers are not cut back.
