Pennisetum alopecuroides

Fountain grass

A tidy rounded growth habit and finely textured foliage make this one of the most popular Pennisetum cultivars. Orderly tufts of foliage are topped in late summer with fuzzy cream-colored blooms. A trouble-free and reliable garden plant that provides structural accents.

Interesting Notes

Arching medium green foliage forms a mound by mid-Summer, with light green spikes of bottlebrush-like inflorescences emering in early September, maturing to pink-purple-green and flowing in the breezes, then turning to tan, along with the foliage, as Autumn progresses, with the grains slowly shattering throughout Autumn and Winter. Growing and Maintenance Tips

Prefers full sun in evenly moist, well-drained soils, but will adapt to poor soils with occasional drought; siting in partial shade will result in decreased vigor and virtually no flowering. Ohio State
