Interesting Notes

Growing native plants is a solution to low maintenance, wildlife protecting, colorful, rich in texture, four-season interest landscaping. In my mind and heart I had catalogued all the points of beauty and interest in our county, hoping to see them for many a year. They all disappear very rapidly with the suburban sprawl and the creation of golf courses, which in turn by spraying chemicals, contaminating of waters with fertilizers, yard run-off and man made lakes ruin the life our estuarine marshes and inlets. This picture repeats itself all over the United States and world, and it is our responsibility to save,
preserve and continue whatever is left. We read today that a lowly, uninteresting animal, the eel, dwindled in quantity to about one hundredth of its presence in the late seventies of the last century. Thirty years from now will find many other items in our food chain, beauty chain, life chain also vastly diminished. What Teddy Roosevelt advocated at the beginning of the twentieth
century is still true. But the need and urgency to protect and continue our free, wonderful, unique heritage is greater than ever. Now is tomorrow, yesterday can not be repeated. (http://www.coastalgardensnursery.com/native_plants.htm)
