Amsonia x 'Blue Ice'
Blue Star
This long-blooming, compact Amsonia selected from A. tabernaemontana seedlings at White Flower Farm is possibly a hybrid with the taxonomically challenged A. montana or perhaps with the Asian Rhazya orientale. Whatever its parentage, Blue Ice blooms longer and stronger than the species and forms a dense, compact mound of dark green leaves that turn brilliant yellow in the fall. Looks fantastic in a gallon!

Interesting Notes
This amazing selection of blue star was discovered in a seedling block of A. tabernaemontana at White Flower Farm in CT. (We suspect that it is actually a hybrid with A. montana, but a paternity test is still pending). Regardless of its origin, the 2' wide mound of narrow dark green foliage is topped in early spring with large clusters of very dark lavender-blue flowers....much more vivid than other blue stars. For us this has been an amazingly vigorous plant, lending credence to a hybrid origin. This is a superb introduction for the spring garden! Plant DelightsGrowing and Maintenance Tips
Adaptable to most conditions, however if it is too shady they may topple over. Amsonia 'Blue Ice' is very easy to grow and hardy and drought tolerant once established.Characteristics & Attributes
