Agastache x

Agastache x 'Firebird'

Anise Hyssop

'Firebird' is a prolific bloomer, covered with deep orange red flowers from mid summer until frost. It is a cross between A. coccinea and A. rupestris, hybridized by Richard Dufresne of North Carolina. An excellent choice for containers, raised beds and rock gardens. A favorite of butterflies and hummingbirds. For us this has been a very reliable returner when given good drainage.

Interesting Notes

These cousins to the Salvias are members of the Mint family which have small, often brightly colored, tubular flowers in terminal spikes. I consider the Agastaches to be some of the best plants for attracting wildlife to the garden. Swallowtail butterflies spend much time floating among the waving flower spikes,
sharing the nectar with hummingbirds, bees and numerous smaller flying insects.
There are a number of fine garden plants and promising possibilities for new
hybrids. Easy to grow in full sun to light shade in well drained soil with periodic
summer water. Cut back the flowering stems if they lag during the summer months
to encourage continuous flowering. Grow with ACHILLEAS, ASTER, DIASCIAS,
NEPETA and SALVIAS. Canyon Creek Nursery

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Full sun in any soil with good drainage and air circulation for the roots. No heavy clay or standing water. Very easy to grow and drought tolerant once established. Excellent drainage is a must for winter survival!
