Care & Maintenance

Festuca glauca prefers average, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerant of drought, salt, heat and humidity. Is prone to center rot if grown in soils that remain wet during the winter. Spreads via rhizomes. Cut foliage to the ground in early spring to maintain neat appearance. Divide in spring or fall.

Use in perennial borders, mass plantings, containers and edgings as well as in rock gardens or troughs. Beautiful with Sedum 'Bertram Anderson', 'Vera Jamison' or 'Angelina'.

Interesting Notes

Native to Europe. The name of the genus comes from the Latin festuca, meaning stalk or stem. Related to arid fescue cultivars of elatior and lawn fescues of rubra.
