Care & Maintenance

Lavender prefer mild Mediterranean or Pacific temperatures to thrive: cool to warm days and cool evenings with low humidity in sunny locations make the plant excel. Most lavender are not long lived in warm to hot, humid summers and cold-winter environments. 'Phenomenal' is notable its humidity and disease tolerance. Wet, poorly-draining soil and high humidity conditions with poor air movement are the demise of lavender plants and often will lead to decline.

Lavender does not like to be mulched - it keeps the moisture levels too high and leads to rot. Overwintering success of lavender is determined by the size of the root system before the plant goes dormant. -Ball RedBook

Interesting Notes

With over 30 years of herb and vegetable growing experience, Peace Tree Farm has never seen a lavender as excellent a performer as 'Phenomenal'. One of the hardiest lavenders seen throughout Europe and the United States, 'Phenomenal' has exceptional winter survival, as it does not have the winter die back that other varieties like Munstead and Hidcote commonly demonstrate. Lavender 'Phenomenal' has also shown tolerance to extreme heat and humidity, and is resistant to common root and foliar diseases. Most commonly popular for its silvery foliage and consistent growth with uniform, mounding habit, 'Phenomenal' has an elegant flower presentation and fragrance, perfect for fresh and dried arrangements and oil uses. Both ornamental and edible, Lavender 'Phenomenal' is a deer-proof variety that can be enjoyed in the garden and in the home year-round. - Peace Tree Farm

Remarkable fragrance and flower presentation above uniform mounds of silvery foliage in spring and summer, it is truly 'Phenomenal' for fresh and dried flower arrangements, oils, and culinary delights – and of course, the perennial border or patio container!
