Heuchera macrorhiza 'Autumn Bride'

Grows best in rich, moist, well-drained soil in full to partial shade. Foliage is more distinct in shade, but can be grown in full sun if adequate moisture is provided. Divide clumps every 3-4 years. May be raised by seed as well. Deadhead to extend flowering season. Use as a edging plant in perennial beds or to add interest to the woodland garden.

Fuzzy, chartreuse to lime green, nearly evergreen foliage erupts in late summer through to fall with white fountains of pure white flowers continuing until frost. Heuchera villosa ‘Autumn Bride’ is a very easy-care plant tolerant of dry shade, moist shade, and a wide variety of conditions in-between. A seed variety Heuchera named and introduced by Bluemount Nurseries, Monkton, MD – there is some variability in bloom time and sizing due to the inherent nature of the seed. It grows up to 2’ tall and 2’-3’ wide and is a strong grower and perfect for use as a groundcover.

Heuchera villosa is native plant from Virginia to Indiana to Alabama to Arkansas and is primarily found in moist, shaded rocky wooded slopes. Var. villosa has deeper lobed leaves and can be found in the eastern part of the range while var. macrorhiza has shallow lobes and can be found in the western part of the range. Recently, Heuchera macrorhiza was found to be Heuchera villosa, the two species epithets are found to be synonymous taxonomically speaking. 

Tolerant of deer pressure, H. ‘Autumn Bride’ is great to use as a edging plant in perennial beds or to add interest to the woodland garden. To extend the flowering season, deadhead flower stalks or use panicles as a filler in a cut flower arrangement. H. villosa has a high level of tolerance for heat and humidity and ‘Autumn Bride’ is no exception. Plant can tolerate some sun but must have consistent moisture or will have leaf scorch.
