Position Summary

The Gardens Manager will be responsible for all phases of maintaining the company’s display gardens, trial beds, and Research and Development greenhouse.  The Gardens Manager will perform operational and supervisory duties that ensure the efficient working of the Research and Development Department at North Creek Nurseries.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Manage the planting and maintenance of the display and trial gardens & greenhouse plants
Supervise employee(s) in all phases of garden & greenhouse work and plant production research and development; train employees and interns on garden landscape techniques
Assist with plant & production research projects as needed
Purchase supplies and maintain proper inventory levels of materials used in day-to-day work
Assist in the inventory and labeling of the R&D plant collection
Work cooperatively with staff to develop and manage the department budget
Perform additional duties as required

Knowledge / Skills Required

Must have gardening and native plant knowledge; design and propagation knowledge desired
Must have basic computer skills -- Microsoft Office Suite
Must possess good time management and organizational skills
Must be able to direct others in the completion of gardening tasks
Must have effective listening and communication skills
Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Follow Lean Flow or Working Smarter program in day-to-day tasks
Follow Systems Approach to Nursery Certification (SANC) practices in day-to-day tasks and strive for continual improvement of our facility practices and internal procedures

Education

Horticulture education or training preferred

Travel: occasional travel to Oxford farm

Compensation: Based on experience
