Position Summary
The R&D Gardener will work with the R&D Manager to assist in garden and grounds maintenance. The gardener will support operational and supervisory functions to ensure the effective operation of the R&D and New Products Department at North Creek Nurseries. Daily responsibilities will include garden maintenance, plant evaluation, trialing of production material, and general operational support of a wholesale perennial nursery. There will be opportunities for professional development.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Maintain site-specific display and trial gardens in a multitude of unique environments; maintenance to include but not limited to planting, mulching, weeding, irrigating, and herbicide application | |
Maintain Best Management Practices sites including a 4-tier storm water management system, living walls, green roofs, and meadows | |
Participate in installation of new garden projects | |
Assist with R&D greenhouse care, trial plant evaluation, and trialing of production material |
Experience
Minimum one season experience maintaining perennial gardens |
Knowledge / Skills Required
Comfortable with operating machinery and hand tools, including tractors, loaders, forklifts, mowers, string trimmers, hedge shears, etc. | |
Ability to assist with herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide applications | |
Must have effective listening and communication skills | |
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and to work in repetitive situations (e.g., container moving, digging) | |
Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions as well as hot/humid greenhouse conditions at tasks that are sometimes physically demanding |
